Specialized Units


Members of the following units are assigned to regular duties in the department. They report to these specialized units when a request for services is initiated. For administrative purposes the Crisis Negotiation Team reports to the Detective Bureau Deputy Chief. The Bomb Squad, SWAT Team, Underwater Search & Recovery Team, and the Honor Guard reports to the Uniform Bureau Deputy Chief.

Crisis Negotiation Team

Crisis Negotiators respond to incidents involving hostage/barricaded subjects. Crisis Negotiators will also respond to any other incidents at the request of a supervisor where their skills and techniques are of use in resolving an incident.

Bomb Squad

Personnel assigned to the Bomb Squad respond to incidents where a suspected explosive device is discovered. It is the duty of the assigned personnel to handle, transport and/or render safe any explosive device.

Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team
Personnel assigned to the SWAT Team respond to incidents involving a violent confrontation or the possibility of a violent confrontation occurring. These could include but are not limited to: Dangerous Felons, Barricaded Suspect, Hostages, Escaped Prisoner, etc. The SWAT Team will also respond when requested by another Law Enforcement Agency which has been approved by the Chief of Police or designee.


   

Underwater Search & Recovery Team
Personnel assigned to the Underwater Search & Recovery Team (USRT) are qualified rescue divers and have the responsibility for the recovery of persons, property, or evidence known or believed to be located within Cobb County. Upon request of other agencies, the team will respond outside Cobb County at the direction of the Chief of Police or designee.



Honor Guard
The Honor Guard represents the Department at official functions or when a ceremonial display of colors or respect is required as directed by the Chief of Police.
